Are you overwhelmed with the paper piles on your kitchen counter and stashes throughout your home? Moms are often overwhelmed with all the paper that comes into their homes everyday. Here are three quick tips that can help you take control of the paper.
Tip #1: Be picky about what papers you keep.
80% of the papers that the average person keeps or files away are never looked at again. Ask yourself these questions:
Will I need to refer to this paper again?
Is this information current?
Can I get this info again?
What would be the worst thing that would happen if I got rid of this?
Tip #2: Deal with the paper that comes into your home on a daily basis.
Paper seems to multiply. You get more in the mail and the kids bring home even more every day. Make a point to make a decision those papers ever day by asking yourself:
Do I need to act on this? If the answer is yes, pick a date
Do I need to refer to this on a later date?
Do I need to give this to someone else?
Make this part of your daily routine and you will put an end to paper clutter before it even starts.
Tip #3: Have system in place to deal with school papers and artwork.
Have a basket or spot for each child to put the finish school papers, permission slips, communications from school that you need to look at. Put it in a spot that they can reach. Make this part of their coming home routine, like hanging up the coats and putting the shoes away. These are tasks that they are expected to do at school as well, so you know they can do it.
It does not take too long before paper start to take over. Try to make decisions on the papers in your home on a daily basis and limit what you keep.
For us,True Religion jeans, Halloween was here. Some of the older folks were concerned about tomorrow night, which was really Halloween night. We had been told, "Tomorrow night you are not leaving this house." The story was the same with all of us. There was a conspiracy among the older folks. They had it in their heads to spoil our tricking, but our plans were already made, and we had taken what our folks had said into account. We would do our tricking on this night, the night before Halloween and forget about the treats of tomorrow night. Our plan was for all of us to get out of the house as quickly as we could after supper. If your folks raised suspicions, then you were to sneak out before supper. After all, what is a meal missed when the fun of Halloween was about to begin?
Just before supper, Wizzer gave our signal then hollered for me from outside the kitchen door just like we had planned. Mom never could say no to Wizzer. I had never told Wizzer about this, but one day I had heard Mom say that she felt sorry for him, what with him being a change of life baby and all. It wasn't my intent to spy on her. This particular conversation was overheard at one of her gabfests with her friend Julia. I was only trying to do what I had been trying to do with no luck at all for as long as I could remember. Namely, it was to see Mrs. Wetzel sleeping and doing something that took some watching and being careful. Just now, they was pitting and peeling peaches and getting them ready for canning.
