A Catered Affair Reviews - Raving And Ranting? | A Arts-and-Entertainment Article
Most of the A Catered Affair reviews seem to be saying just one thing- this is a show you wouldn't want to miss. The show is a musical- not one of those hyper-glamorized, big production musicals but just a simple musical. It reminds the audience of what a good musical used to be like,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], when it wasn't just about eye candy. It was about a good story,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], hummable songs and a decent set of characters.
Something Everyone Can Relate To
One of the things that many of A Catered Affair reviews have been pointing out is the simple storyline that the play has. It doesn't rely on any gimmicks of any kind and it's definitely something that everyone can relate to. Jane is a young woman who has a boyfriend called Ralph. Jane's life as been an uneventful one so far- at home,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she's always been eclipsed by her 'perfect' brother. She's grown used to this kind of life and doesn't expect anything exciting or amazing to ever happen to her. This is why she's agreed to marry Ralph at City Hall, looking on the arrangement more as a partnership than a marriage.
While it would be easy to blame Jane's parents for all this, we find it hard to do that when we get to know them as characters. Jane's mother Aggie is unhappy and feels guilty for the way she has treated her daughter. This leads her to plan furiously for a grand wedding- even though Jane doesn't want one. Jane's father is a hard-working cab driver who's finally gathered enough money to own his own cab. But should he use that money for Jane's wedding instead? After all, the girl has never had anything special in her life before.
The Ties That Bind
As many A Catered Affair reviews point out, this play is far more than just another 'wedding' show. It also brings to light the different conflicts that exist between these characters. Aggie's guilt leads her to force Jane to agree to extravagant wedding preparations. Jane agrees but in a weary fashion- she is simply going along with what life has given her. This is what she's always done. Jane's father is tormented about the choice that he needs to make- he's slaved his whole life to make his dream of owning a car a reality. In the end,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it comes down to which is more important to him- the taxi or his daughter's wedding?
Another factor that throws a little fun into the mix is Uncle Winston. Uncle Winston pretty much lives on the family couch- after initially getting angry about being excluded, Winston becomes a support for Aggie. As most A Catered Affair reviews point out, the characters learn some exciting things about each other and themselves as the play progresses.
Unfortunately, getting the tickets to see the play hasn't been very easy. Thanks to a wonderful show, great A Catered Affair reviews and a celebrity cast, most people have had to stand in long queues for their tickets. If you don't have time for that but are desperate to see this musical, you can order your passes online through an authorized online ticket vendor.
